Thank you, Jan. I am noticing how the wildlife in my yard becomes active, then disappears, sometimes without apparent reason. I've been taking this as something to emulate and allowing myself to be quieter after a period of bustle. It's interesting, though: With a full just over a month gone and a little less than two to go, I think of winter being in its prime right now. I suppose, no matter what, it is moving toward an end, like we all are.
Very interesting and informative article. Thank you. I read the following book not too long ago (well three-quarters before a friend borrowed it- I was reading two other books at the time- still waiting to get it back)- The White Goddess by Robert Graves. This is so moving, Jan. We've warmed up from the polar vortex and the snow is melting. I went out yesterday and found the first shoots on my hellebores and the first green tips of the crocus I planted last fall. I've been enjoying regular visits from the local white tailed deer, including a gracious young buck who has been spending time inside my fence, browsing on my winter creeper.
Ahhhh, so many lovely signs and encounters as the winter begins its slow demise. How wonderful to have a young buck grace your land. There's something very majestic about them. Lucky you!

Yes, The White Goddess, I've read it twice. It's well worth reading for some mythic insights.
Ha! Well, then, you're more than familiar with it...Right on
