I’ve been searching for a plot of land in the mountains for quite a while. A few years back while walking a lot with a realtor, we were discussing how to decide where to put a well on it. She said that I could hire a water witch. This was the first time I had ever heard that term. When I asked her to explain what that was, I remembered doing this as a kid- who knows how I was shown how to do it. She then said, “or perhaps you already know how to do that.” To which I replied, “yes, I do.” ;) The deal didn’t go through, so I never got to give it a chance.
Hi Debbie, I love this story! I do think we hold ancestral memories of these things and so many others. How funny that you didn't know what it was called but you knew how to do it that a perfect example of inherited knowledge.
Thanks for sharing Jan, I found such generosity in your explanation. It really is fascinating. I love the connection to healing and plants. I suspect this is a witchy part of me that is yet to be uncovered. How exciting! 🙏💫
I’m so glad you found generosity here! Whether it’s witchy, herbalist, or simply the archetypical Gardener, I wish you well in your journey of Self discovery.
Thank you for sharing this with us! It reminds me of a song that I recently heard. A verse that goes something like this, A rose blooms when she’s ready and not a moment before. I feel as if I’m still growing. Definitely a late bloomer but it’s nice to realize that it’s perfectly fine. Witch Hazel has so much to teach us!
Hi Jan, I so appreciate your description of Witch Hazel and it’s magnificent properties!! What stands out most for me in this entry is that it’s okay to bloom long past when most other people’s lives bloom (just like Witch Hazel). This describes me exactly and I’m grateful for this encouragement!! Thank you!! 🩵

Late bloomers are often the most prolific bloomers. I suspect the best is yet to come.
Thank you Jan😊

Hi Jennifer, I knew that would resonate with someone. It’s much more common than we realize. Thanks for reading and taking the time to comment. 💚
Thank you Jan for this enchanting piece reminding us to pay attention to our own inner witch hazel rods of intuition.
Hi Mary, you’re welcome. We can often forget that whatever we observe in nature is also within us.
