For me this story is a tale that we should accept the differences in our relationships as well as the harmony. there is something here of the animalistic nature of the woman and women in general.Society often places domestic duties:cooking cleaning thd house and being sweet on women, but there is something wilder, less domesticated in women that really needs to express itself and its instincts.Men need to see this side of women too and accept it, with their partners, mothers, sisters, friends and the inner female in themselves.

Loved this story, Jan. Thank you for making it available.

I am fortunate to be in a long, loving relationship. Still, there are times my husband and I must confront traits we dislike about each other. Moving past this requires focusing on all that is right and good rather than on the one behavior we find difficult. The more we fixate on what's wrong, the more we see only that. This is where I see myself in this story. I'm sorry the huntsman couldn't learn to accept his love's one flaw.

Interestingly, there is a biological parallel (or so I've read) in how women of childbearing years experience pheromones. Once we are past that time, some studies show that we suddenly find the smell distasteful, which can cause relationships to struggle. Interesting connection!

This made me think of my paternal grandparents. My grandmother was a mean woman and my grandfather was a gentle man and completely besotted with her, putting up and laughing off her cruel tongue. What struck me about the pelt was the scent of my grandmother’s industrial grade hairspray; it really was everywhere in their house and so thick, you could chew on it. She passed nearly 20 years ago and I have a few items of hers that are still redolent with that smell. Apparently it wasn’t strong enough to break their completely baffling bond though. 🤷🏻‍♀️.

Amazing story and beautifully written. Within these past two months, a new guide has come to me, a red fox. And now I'm seeing pictures and stories everywhere. Wonderful to land here today.

Thank you Jan! I really enjoy your writing on substack and i'm glad to see you moving into this territory.

I am struck by the stink of the pelt. For me it triggered the thoughts of how difficult it can be to really be with who we are, and for others

it can be so disturbing as our core, wild nature comes to the surface.

I’m so glad you liked this! Yes, I agree some part of this is about seeing each other as we truly are and being able to see past that which “stinks”.
