This is my favorite time of the year! I feel the need to gather, the need to prepare for the shorter days and longer nights ahead. For me it’s a time to rest, to settle in! Tomorrow I will be baking the Bannock Bread to mark Michaelmas. Blackberries don’t grow here on the coast so I will be content in serving it with blackberry preserves. This is my first time doing this and yes, I’m the oldest daughter! Thank you Jan! 😊🧡🍂🍁
I love asters! So interesting to realize that they are the last flower to bloom. I used to loathe the darkness but now I have a greater awareness, helped along by you, dear Jan, that the dark season/winter is a time to turn inward and to rest in the womb of darkness. I crave the quiet winter brings when all my neighbors put away their leaf blowers. Of course, there are the snow blowers, alas.
Here’s a fun fact... asters (which means Star) bloom through August Leonid and into the Taurine Meteor showers in November. And what are asteroids but “falling stars”
Loved this. My husband, whose name is Michael, says this is his day. I let him think that.
It's one of my daughter's birthdays!
It’s one of my sons birthday, too. 🎂

Traditions being revived, love that.
I don’t know how to post the photo here but it turned out beautifully! Thank you Jan!😊🧡🍂🍁
I’ll let you know how the bread turned out! 😊🧡
