A good friend of mine, who is gone now, shared with me life changing wisdom. One time while driving together we saw a dead animal on the side of the road- it had been hit by a human. Naturally I was upset. She said “debbie you can send them your light.” I realized that time is man-made, and I could send my heart energy (light) in that timeless moment to them. The loving metta transcends time and place. Not to disregard the tragedy and sadness- that is real too; yet so is the sharing of comfort and love- perhaps even stronger.
I have been so saddened and horrified by the events in Gaza. I made the mistake of looking at some of the images coming out of Gaza (I usually listen to the news, maybe once a week) which, of course, than impacted me: Feeling melancholy and hopeless the rest of the day. Somehow reading this post about coyote, and the meditation of loving kindness reminded me, that there are ways that I can be impactful.
And so I will sit and meditate with love and kindness, keeping Gaza in my heart.
Thanks for your writing. It is beautiful and heartfelt. I always get some treasure from it,.
I’m sitting here in my car just after I dropped my rescue dog off at the vet to have her teeth cleaned. I did my best to send her thoughts that she was not being abandoned, that I would pick her up this afternoon and all would be well.
I send the animals my thoughts all the time. On the property in which I live, we do not allow hunting. As I walk through the woods, this time of year, I tell the deer I see to stay on this property and they will be safe from the hunters.
I love your form of meta,Jan, for the wild ones. I will be using this prayer as my own now for those creatures who pass my way, including your coyote ❤️🐾❤️
I'm a nervous wreck every time I have ton leave my dogs at the vet, even though I love our vet and the staff and the dogs are always fine. It's especially hard with a rescue (Molly) and I've had previous dogs who were also rescues. I have a small Sheltie figurine which I place on a saucer and surround with a circle of black salt as a protective circle, and then light a candle and say prayers for them when they go to thew vet. Ritual is powerful and it helps.
Your tender soul is so evident in your writing, Jan. These words brought tears to my eyes. My affinity is with birds. My mom’s spirit comes to me in a Great Heron but I’m not sure yet how my Dad’s spirit will visit me. Thank you for the encouragement to pay attention to synchronicities as they may be messages sent from beyond.
Heron is such a special bird, one that moves between earth, water and sky. I'm sure your dad's bird messenger will present itself, and when it does you will know.

Walking prayers are wonderful. I think the compassionate heart finds its way to this type of simple intention for others naturally.
