So interesting the metaphor of the table but I think of it slightly differently or do I? In several spiritual occurrences in my life, the metaphor of the table represents the place we are called to sit at with great reverence like in Jesus' table or the place we invite others to share our journey with on earth. It is a sacred place of beginnings and maybe solutions. So, Jan, your table of spaciousness and creativity shows us a whole new perspective on who or what is at your table of insight and wisdom. Thank you
Creativity is of course neutral as a human activity, able to be used for many purposes, but when in service to the intention of beauty, uplifting ideas, healing expressions, joy and even fun it becomes sacred and thus the table, the space where we enter into creativity also becomes sacred. Perhaps the greatest creative act occurs at Jesus' table when earthly bread and wine are transformed.
Oooh, I have table envy! Or studio envy! (And a funny aside, as we talk about juggling too many balls, I just wrote "invoice" in place of the word envy. Ha!) I like the idea of having enough mental space to leave room for projects to stay visible and evolve as they need to. This is an area I really struggle with, always feeling like there's never quite enough of me to go around. I continue to search for ways to create more balance. I think, as you suggest, I may need to let go of some commitments, even though I only take on obligations I feel drawn to in the first place. I'm not in a position to retire just yet, but I sometimes think that is how I could reclaim the largest chunk of time. My bank account gives me the stink eye when I talk of such things! 😅
Hi Elizabeth, The bigger the studio the bigger the mess, that is the downside! I've observed you to be a highly creative person so it doesn't surprise mew that even though you limit your commitments to those things you really feel drawn to you still have an overflowing cup. This is the blessing/curse of all highly creative souls. I work with lots of people eyeing retirement and those in the transition or just past. The one thing that sets apart those who successfully create a post work life are those that have put in place a robust creative practice that they easily shift into after the 9 to 5 goes away. I think you are laying that foundation right now!
Thank you for the vote of confidence, Jan, and the validation for why I still overflow. You are spot on! I'm not sure "retirement" in the traditional sense, is in my financial future, but laying foundations for needed shifts is good no matter what, so I will keep my eyes on that. 💚

Awesome indeed to be in love with what you love.
