There is a belief that conflict is the natural state of human affairs.
This point of view is quite widespread. Moreover, it certainly seems to have history on its side.
I think that's why archaeologist Marija Gambutis' theory that there was a matrifocal, goddess-worshiping, peaceful society in what she called "old Europe" for thousands of years before the invasion of the peoples from the Steppes seemed so threatening.
The threat comes because it reminds us that we can do better.
Neither you nor I will be able to impact global relations among nations or factions within domestic politics and popular culture.
What we can do is challenge our own preconceived notions, insecurities, and egos. Perhaps that's why we need a "prince of peace" who bestows a "peace that passes all understanding." We can scarcely comprehend an existence where peace within ourselves and between our neighbors and us is possible, let alone implement it.
As you light this week's candle, invoke peace. Ask it to come in. Then, this coming year, with any luck, we can do a little better.
Thank you @LisaFrideborg Angelorum for cross-posting this. May we each find our peace, and in so doing set a wave of peace in motion.
Thank you!!!
